Busy - busy - busy: Wino Magazine Gala Dinner & BBC Good Food Show the Same Week

Last week was definitely a busy one for Omar, co-proprietor of Royal Somló Vineyards, as he was deployed to fly the flag for Juhfark in Warsaw for two days. WINO Magazyn, the largest and most respected consumer title in Poland, was holding its 10th Anniversary Gala Dinner & Tasting on 6th and 7th November 2012, where Royal Somló J 2009 was received very well. In fact, the Polish seem to have a secret love affair with Somló and Juhfark, as Omar reported upon his return.
There was not much time left to rest, because we both were at the BBC Good Food Show on Saturday, 10th November 2012. Yet again, we met crowds of foodies and wine enthusiasts who enjoyed savouring Royal Somló J 2009 at the Tokaj Merchant’s stand, who had been appointed as one of Royal Somló‘s importers in the UK.

Royal Somló J 2009 Featured in “Cult Wines” Master Class at Wine Professional 2012 (Amsterdam)

9 January 2012
image image

We are honoured and humbled to have been selected to be among the only four wines presented at the Cult Wines Master Class at Wine Professional in Amsterdam.

Jef and Nadine of Culinaire Verwennerij bij Jef, a Michelin-starred restaurant on the island of Texel in the Netherlands, created a dish for each of the selected wines. Royal Somló J was beautifully matched with a composition of Zeeland flat oyster spiced with capers and mustard, served in a tomato jelly infused with lemongrass, ginger and star of anise.

We are delighted that Bij Jef is the third Michelin-starred restaurant to list our wine. Miranda Beems Wijnimport is representing us proudly in The Netherlands.

Royal Somló Summer Party

Almost 50 friends and colleagues joined us at Royal Somló Vineyards for an authentic Hungarian bogrács party on Wednesday, 20 July 2011. The summer party featured a range of delicious vegetarian dishes as well, such as Greek salad, houmous, hallumi cheese, Indian-infused couscous, marinated olives, blue-cheese and sun-dried tomato topped polenta. A tasting of Royal Somló J 2007 and 2009 vintages kicked off the dinner and a delicious 2008 furmint filled the carafes to accompany the meal. If you have not liked the Royal Somló Facebook page yet, you can do so when checking out more photos of the summer party.

Royal Somló Launched in Singapore

We were fortunate to host a group of wine professionals, connoisseurs and enthusiasts in the Corriander Leaf in Singapore.

Celebrity Chef Samia Ahad created a stunning menu of Middle Eastern and South-east Asian specialties to complement Royal Somló J 2007.

Annette Scarfe, a local wine educator, initiated a fascinating discussion by inviting fellow tasters to comment on the food and wine matching. All our distinguished guests expressed their highly regarded opinion.

Whilst personal preferences, in terms of the best food and wine pairing, varied; all the guests agreed that the fresh acids, lively minerality and the complex flavours made Royal Somló J 2007 a brilliant accompaniment to South-east Asian dishes. Richard Nemes, MD of Wines of Hungary, expressed his appreciation for ‘this very attractive Juhfark’.
